(Rom 8:28) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
(Rom 8:29) For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
(Rom 8:30) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Although God will grant Christ-likeness to us when CHRIST returns, until then, He intends us to grow toward Christ-likeness.
(1Ti 4:7) But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
What does the word "exorcise" in the verse above mean? To discipline yourself, or train yourself to refuse profane or empty things that do not make you more like Christ. The Spiritual Disciplines are the God-given means we are to use in the Spirit filled pursuit of godliness. The three catalysts for changing us to Christ-likeness are:
1) People: (Prov 27:17) Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. The friends that you have, and the people in your life will influence you! If they are the right, Godly type of people, then it will be unto Godliness. If they are not, then the influence you bring yourself subject yourself to will be one of ungodliness and undiscipline.
2) Circumstances: (Rom. 8;28) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. We cannot control our circumstances; that is the Lord's to control. However, we can control how we react to circumstances! Do your reactions reflect Spiritual Maturity or immaturity?
3) Spiritual Disciplines: (1 Tim 4:7) But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. It is ultimately up to you whether or not you will discipline yourself to become more like Christ. If you do not refuse profane or vain things in your life, and exercise yourself in your daily walk with the Lord, then you cannot expect to be more like Christ. God has given us these disciplines as a means of receiving His Grace and growing in Godliness.
